Tony Bennett: An American Treasure
Tony Bennett is a jazz singer, an artist, a legend. Throughout his career Bennett has worked with many notable people such as Frank Sinatra, Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga and Diana Krall. Bennett has been in the music business for more than 50 years! Tony Bennett’s most famous song is, “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” Through his unique voice he has captured generations of fans, spanning from the 80s to fans that are in their teens today. Bennett is a beloved American singer who is greatly treasured and truly loved by his fans.
Coming from an Italian immigrant family, who lived in poverty, Bennett learned how to value everything he had and to work hard to climb up the ladder. Tony Bennett is a wonderful American example of the joys that can come from working hard in life. With his success he’s given back to his community by building the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Queens, a high school dedicated to the arts.
In August, Tony Bennett turned 95 years old and released what is presumed to be his final album. The album is titled, “Love for Sale”. To promote the album he decided to go on tour. Fans became excited, tickets sold, everything was coming together for Tony Bennett’s farewell concerts. I myself wanted to go see him but unfortunately most of his concert dates have been canceled. The concerts were canceled for a number of reasons. The primary and perhaps most depressing reason being that Tony Bennett suffers from Alzheimers-- and his family feared that he may have a mishap while performing. According to The Rolling Stone, Bennett has been dealing with Alzheimer's since 2016 and it has worsened over the years. Although Bennett may struggle with Alzheimers, it is still remarkable how he has still performed even into his 90s! Tony Bennett hasn’t stopped there, according to CNN, Tony Bennet set a world record for “being the oldest person to release an album of new material.” This is another outstanding achievement proving Tony Bennett to be one of the greats.
As time goes by, Tony Bennett will be a timeless voice and artist that continues to charm the ears, minds, and hearts of listeners around the world. Although he does suffer from Alzheimer's, he has shown that life can still be lived, despite age or illnesses. Having recorded his final album with Alzheimer’s inspires all people to be determined and persevere in their own lives. Tony Bennett will forever be the true example of success and of the American dream.
